More American-History-Related Resources

There are endless resources online for those interested in American history. Here are a few that might be of especial interest, in that their content is entirely in the public domain--meaning that you can use any of it yourself on a web site or in a report or whatever. (We expect to be constantly expanding this list.)

• The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA): "NARA, an independent Federal agency, is America's national recordkeeper.

  "Our mission is to ensure ready access to the essential evidence that documents the rights of American citizens, the actions of Federal officials, and the national experience."

  Important historical works, such as texts, photos, paintings, and illustrations are available on this site.

  
  

• Project Gutenberg: a huge online collection of the complete texts of many of the greatest books and documents--fiction and nonfiction--of all time. A search for "American History" showed 23 books, but there are certainly other relevant documents here. This is one of the internet's very greatest resources.

• Images of American Political History: "A collection of over 500 public domain images of American Political History."
