The girl may nod back again to acknowledge the invitation, or she may turn her head away to drop. This way of inviting a woman is called cabeceo. Cabeceo gives women the freedom to simply accept or reject an invitation without having to be obliged to dance or causing public embarrassment to the person. For cabeceo to work, women must take part the process.
If women sit there chatting with one another and pay no attention to men, men cannot cabeceo them even if they would like to then. Women need to know that making eye connection with men is vital because men can only cabeceo those who take a look at them. In order not to skip the opportunity to find somebody, women must stop speaking with each other, especially at the beginning of a tanda, and must search and make attention contact with men positively. The light in the milonga, therefore, should be bright enough for people to see one another and do cabeceo.
Some milonga organizers established the light too dim, or use the flashing light of the disco room in order to create special effects, which only does a disservice to the milonga. 5. What if you made a mistake? When doing cabeceo, you will need to ensure that a person is nodding at you and not someone behind you or next to you.
However, in a congested milonga, mistake could occur. A guy thought a female has accepted his cabeceo Sometimes, only to find that she visited join another man. In such case the person must cabeceo another person while on his way quickly, or change path and go to the men’s room instead. Sometimes two women at the same desk both thought they have been cabeceoed by the same man.
To avoid misunderstandings, the man needs to look into the eyes of the woman that he could be inviting while walking towards her and steer clear of making eye contact with the other girl even if the last mentioned stares at him. Some women feel offended by this and stop making attention contact with the man afterwards, which is totally unnecessary. An understanding female can always catch the man’s eyes if she wants to dance with him again. Cabeceo could be hindered by dim light, distance, crowd and bad eyesight.
As a treatment you may consider rotating chairs in different areas of the room if the chairs are not set. If the seats are fixed, you may temporarily leave your seat and walk to where you are able to make eye contact with the person of your decision, and do cabeceo then. 7. How exactly to invite a woman who is talking?
A gentleman does not interrupt a woman when she is talking. If a man tries to make eye contact with a woman, but she turns a blind attention, what does that mean? Wrong. She does not see you because she does not want to dance with you. If she wants you she shall see you. You ought not to force the right path to her seat and have her, as which could oblige her to dance, putting her into a situation that she may choose to avoid to begin with. Instead, you should stay where you are and wait until she makes eye connection with you, and then cabeceo her to see if she will accept your invitation.
